Improving Supports to Children & Youth with Special Needs

Spectrum History:
In 2006-07 a small group of people deeply involved in supporting children with special needs in the region (including a parent of a child with special needs) wanted to see what they could do to address serious gaps in support for these children. The focus for these discussions was children diagnosed with any of the complex Developmental and Behavioral Conditions such as ASD, FASD, and CCY. With the help of the Coop, they raised funds to dig deeper into the issues to see if they could identify any specific strategies to improve service.
Spectrum Solutions is coordinated through a project coordinator (Bill Reid) and a regional steering committee. Bill produces a regular newsletter and organizes training events on a variety of topics of interest to service providers and parents with special needs children.
