Early Years

The West Kootenay region has various projects, programs and events underway to support parents and their children. For information, please contact the Early Years Coordinator, Sonia Tavares, at 250 352-6786 or email info@thekoop.ca.  Please visit the West Kootenay Early Years website.

Here are some of the Early Years programs making a difference in the lives of children and families in this region.

Success by 6® is funded provincially by Ministry of Children & Family Development, Credit Unions of BC and United Ways.   Success By 6® is an early childhood development initiative dedicated to providing all children with a good start in life. It helps by working with communities to ensure that children ages 0 to 6 develop the emotional, social, cognitive, and physical skills they need as they enter school.

Success By 6 builds and enhances community through engaging citizens in early childhood development, and funding programs that strengthen services for young children and their families.

Success By 6 envisions a community where all children are valued, respected, nurtured, loved and given the opportunity to develop to their full potential as creative, caring, competent and responsible adults.

Children First is funded regionally by Ministry of Children and Family Development.  Children First Initiatives support communities to identify and develop an integrated and comprehensive model of Early Childhood Development [ECD] service delivery for children 0 to 6 years of age and their families.

Children First Initiatives are key to creating networks that work together to build family-friendly sustainable communities both within the early child development field and the broader community.  There are 45 Children First Initiatives operating in BC.
